The Bride

Lindsey is a high-energy smart alec currently in her second year at the University of Pennsylvania law school, working towards a J.D. and a masters in Bioethics. She is a history buff, a bookworm, an aspiring comedienne, and a lifelong learner. Most of all, she's crazily, madly in love with Dave.

The Groom

David is a true rennaisaince man: a brilliant software engineer, a creative mad scientist/inventor, an adventurer, and a talented performing artist. When he isn't solving problems and crafting code in Philadelphia, Dave enjoys long walks, beating Lindsey at chess, and exploring the urban jungle.

How We Found Each Other

Dave and Lindsey met at St. Olaf College when Dave was a senior and Lindsey was a freshman. After dropping her phone, Lindsey dolefully wandered campus with a handful of microchips and number keys, at which point a helpful passerby told her to go to the theater building and find a guy named David Middlecamp. If anyone could help, they said, David could. Lo and behold, the tall, dark, handsome Dave was armed with a winning smile and a pocket tool kit, and quickly fixed the phone.

Although they did not start dating at the time, Dave and Lindsey quickly became friends, working tech for the Three Penny Opera and later gracing the stage together in a one-act play. Over the course of the next year, they kept in touch online and in the spring of Lindsey's sophomore year, she got Dave's number from a mutual acquaintance so they could meet over sushi in the Twin Cities. Many phone calls followed, and that July, Dave took Lindsey to a Dresden Dolls concert in WI and spent the weekend impressing her and her family with his contagious smile and relaxed personality. It took a little while for the otherwise outgoing pair to become official, but they have been head over heels for each other ever since.

The Engagement Story

Very early in their relationship, Lindsey (only half-jokingly) said that instead of a ring, she thought a man should have to do something truly challenging to show his commitment. When pressed for an example, Lindsey announced, "I want a breakfast-machine instead of a ring, like some Rube Goldberg-style, peewee herman, chitty chitty bang bang conveyor belt breakfast machine." Little did she know that years later Dave would not only remember this request, but make it a reality.

In April of 2008, Dave drove down to St. Olaf to join Lindsey and watch the season premiere of Battlestar Galactica (the couple's guilty pleasure.) Dressed up in fan-gear, Lindsey was pretty embarassed when Dave took her to a fancy little restaurant, but quickly forgot what she was wearing when Dave pulled out a binder filled with blueprints and CAD diagrams for, you guessed it, a breakfast machine. Lindsey started crying, Dave may or may not have started crying, and by the end of the binder the two were engaged. A waitress ran over with champagne and even with all the excitement, the two were able to make it back in time to catch Battlestar Galactica. With a trip a few weeks later to Tiffany's, Dave and Lindsey spent the rest of the year walking on air and planning their move to Philadelphia.
